この豪華な木製の格天井（1570年代頃）は、金箔と彩色で豊かに飾られ、聖母の取り次ぎによる勝利とされたレパントの海戦（1571年）を記念しています。教皇グレゴリウス13世のもとで制作が委嘱され、政治的・宗教的象徴性を融合させるとともに、ローマ最古級のバシリカの一つにおける後期ルネサンス装飾の壮麗さを体現しています。
