Temple of Vesta

This circular temple (early 1st c. AD) housed the sacred flame of Vesta, goddess of the hearth. Tended by the Vestal Virgins, the eternal fire symbolized Rome’s continuity and protection. The temple’s round form echoes early Italic domestic hearths, linking state religion to the family at the heart of Roman identity.
