Captive Jew
This relief (c. AD 82) from the Arch of Titus portrays a captive Jew, part of the triumphal procession celebrating Rome’s victory in the Jewish War. The expressive face, open mouth, and anguished gaze reflect the suffering of the defeated. The arch immortalizes Rome’s conquest and the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple.
