Cayo Báez after Torture
This haunting photograph (1916) shows Cayo Báez, arrested by U.S. occupying forces during the 1916 intervention in the Dominican Republic. Suspected of organizing resistance, he was brutally tortured. His wounded torso testifies to imperial violence and the high human cost of anti-colonial struggle in early 20th‑c. Caribbean history.
