St LukeGiovanni Battista Gaulli
This ceiling fresco (c. 1676) shows St. Luke seated with an ox at his side, surrounded by angels and framed by gilded stucco. Luke’s attribute, the ox, identifies him as the evangelist associated with sacrifice and priestly service. The dynamic Baroque composition demonstrates how Gaulli links physical effort and divine inspiration in the writing of the Gospel.
