Illusionistic Architecture and StatueBaldassarre Peruzzi
In this fresco (1511), Peruzzi creates an illusionistic architectural setting with painted marbled columns framing a distant landscape. To the right, a monochrome caryatid-like figure evokes classical sculpture, blending the real and the fictive. The trompe-l’œil (visual illusion) technique transforms the loggia into a vast open pavilion, merging Renaissance perspective mastery with antique inspiration.
