Lion Attacking a Horse
This late 4th-century BC sculpture, crafted from Pentelic marble with Luna marble restorations, depicts a lion attacking a horse. First documented in Rome's Piazza del Campidoglio (1300), it later adorned the Palazzo Senatorio's staircase, a site of justice. Michelangelo admired it, and it was restored in 1594 by his pupil Ruggero Bescape. The dynamic scene symbolizes power and survival, echoing themes that resonate through history.
