Lion Support of the CloisterVassalletto Workshop

This marble lion (c. 1215), part of the cloister’s architectural decoration, serves as a symbolic protector and base for the twisted columns above. Common in Romanesque art, lions embodied vigilance and strength, guarding sacred spaces. The Vassalletto workshop integrated such motifs to enhance both structure and spiritual meaning.
