Quimbaya-Zenú Style Pendant with Seated Figure
This gold pendant (300–700), from the Caribbean region of Costa Rica, influenced by the Quimbaya and Zenú cultures of ancient Colombia, depicts a seated figure wearing a crescent headdress and rich jewelry. In his hands he holds a four-pronged ceremonial pipe. A three-pronged pipe rests across his knees, suggesting symbolic tools used in trance, healing, or communication with spirits.
