This wooden board fragment (12th–13th cc.) preserves two etched grids for medieval board games, likely merels or related strategy games. Found in early Riga, it attests to urban leisure and craftsmanship, where carved geometric patterns transformed simple wood into a medium of play, planning, and social interaction.
