Hunting Wheellock Rifle from Riga

This finely decorated wheellock rifle (17th c.) was used for hunting, a prestigious pastime among European nobility. The wheellock mechanism, developed in the 16th c., allowed for more reliable ignition. Such weapons reflected both the technological sophistication and social status of their owners in early modern Riga.
