Summer (Aestas) Mosaic

This Roman mosaic from Lilybaeum in Sicily (2nd–3rd cc. AD) forms part of a larger pavement depicting the Four Seasons. Summer appears crowned with wheat, emblem of fertility and harvest. Alongside Spring, Autumn, and Winter, the cycle conveyed time’s eternal rhythm. Framed by scrolls and geometric borders, the tesserae display refined technique and the Roman union of art, nature, and cosmic order.
