Jeanne de Navarre and Her SonHenriette Lorimier
Jeanne de Navarre leans toward her young son Arthur beside the carved tomb of her husband Duke John IV of Brittany, her dark gown contrasting with his pale attire. The boy holds a crown, directed toward the recumbent effigy. Exposed at the 1806 Salon, the 1835 work exemplifies Romantic ideals of maternal duty and filial reverence.
