Fifty Arms of Buddha (detail)Huang Yong Ping
This installation (1997) shows terracotta hands reaching upward, one lifting a small seated figurine while another hovers nearby against a blank field. It reworks the Thousand-Armed Buddha motif through strategies linked to Marcel Duchamp and the objet trouvé (an ordinary item repurposed as art). By merging devotional forms with readymade components, Huang tests how sacred symbols circulate within contemporary global art.
