Mexica Tlaloc Pot with Serpents
This Mexica ceramic vessel (1440–69) features a high-relief mask of Tlaloc, the rain god, with a face symbolically formed by two serpents joined at the mouth. It contained mother-of-pearl shells and greenstone beads, sacred emblems of water, fertility, and divine sustenance reflecting the Mexica's deep connection to nature and their spiritual beliefs, emphasizing the importance of rain and agriculture in their society.
