Coyolxauhqui Monolith
This circular relief (c. 1500) shows the goddess Coyolxauhqui dismembered after her defeat by Huitzilopochtli, her brother and the Mexica god of war. According to myth, she led an attack on their mother Coatlicue, only to be slain and cast from the sacred mountain. Found at the base of the Templo Mayor, the stone symbolized divine punishment and cosmic order.
