Nicoya Jaguar Tripod Vessels
These tripod ceramic vessels (500–800) in the Pataky style—a regional Nicoya tradition marked by bold contour lines, red-and-black palette, and schematic animal forms—depict jaguars with open jaws and intricate motifs. In Nicoya culture, the jaguar symbolized power, transformation, and the shaman’s link to the spirit world. Such vessels likely served in elite rituals involving offerings, cacao, or hallucinogens.
