Sedan Chair and Travel Chest

This wooden sedan chair, carried by porters, offered private transport for elite passengers through narrow colonial streets. Beside it, an iron-studded leather “petaca” travel chest—rigid-framed and often piteado-decorated—secured personal goods during long journeys. Both reflect the mobility, status, and craftsmanship of 18th-c. colonial life.
