Hanseatic Brass Basin Imported to Riga
This richly engraved brass basin (13th c.) was imported by Western European merchants and reflects Riga’s elite taste during its rise as a Hanseatic trade hub. Decorated with Latin inscriptions and biblical imagery, such basins were luxury items used for ceremonial or domestic purposes, symbolizing wealth and cultural ties to the West.
