Mosaic and Marble Wall Decoration
This interior ensemble (late 2nd–early 3rd c.) combines a black-and-white geometric mosaic floor with a patchwork of marble wall revetment. The floor’s interlocking circles and borders use simple tesserae to create a precise, legible pattern suited to heavy traffic. The costly marble facing demonstrates how Ostian commercial buildings integrated durable finishes with the visual language of elite domestic interiors.
