Model of Hadrian’s Villa
A detailed scale model spreads the villa’s palaces, baths, gardens, and pools across a low, terraced landscape. The complex (2nd c.) served as Emperor Hadrian’s vast retreat outside Rome, arranged as a microcosm of his empire. Varied building types and axial vistas reflect both Roman engineering and a blend of Greek, Egyptian, and Eastern forms, expressing an ideal of ordered imperial diversity.
