Study of a Male NudeJohann Heinrich Füssli
This male nude study (1790–1810) shows a muscular figure seated on the ground, twisting his torso and extending one leg. Füssli, active in London, used such drawings to explore anatomy and extreme bodily tension within a classical framework. The strained pose and stark lighting demonstrate how Romantic artists tested the expressive limits of the human body.
