The Supper at Emmaus (detail)Caravaggio
This painting (c. 1606) focuses on Christ’s calm hand raised in blessing, the cracked bread before him, and the disciples’ subdued reaction. Unlike the theatrical energy of the 1601 version, the gesture here conveys quiet recognition. Caravaggio reduces miracle to a moment of stillness, where the divine presence enters through simplicity and shadow.
