The Black Cat Sign

This painted plaster and glass sign from the late 18th c. marked a shop at the corner of Rue Saint-Denis and Rue de la Reynie in Paris’s 1st arrondissement. Initially for a silk merchant, then a confectioner, it was known as The Black Cat.
