Chambre de la Duchesse d’ÉtampesFrancesco Primaticcio
This decoration (1540s) at Fontainebleau forms part of Primaticcio’s cycle on the loves of Alexander the Great. Stucco nudes entwine with painted scenes, such as Roxana attended before Alexander. The lavish blend of sculpture and fresco exemplifies the School of Fontainebleau’s Mannerism, transforming private chambers into allegories of power and desire.
