Castello di Giulio II and Sant’Aurea ChurchBaccio Pontelli
The Castello di Giulio II (1483-87), attributed to Pontelli, was built under Pope Julius II to defend the mouth of the Tiber. Its round tower, walls, and moat reflect Renaissance military architecture. On the left, the 15th-c. church of Sant’Aurea, blends religious and defensive functions.
