Max is with David and Shirley, English missionaries who became close friends during his time in Russia. Behind them rises the west façade of Chartres Cathedral, a 12th–13th-cc. Gothic masterpiece. Its twin towers, sculpted portals, and vast rose window embody medieval faith and artistry, earning UNESCO World Heritage status.
