Camp of Diocletian
The Camp of Diocletian in Palmyra, built during Emperor Diocletian’s reign (284–305 AD), was a strategic military outpost at the western edge of the acropolis. It reinforced Rome’s eastern frontier against Sasanian threats and Zenobia’s revolt (267–271 AD). Overseen by Sosianus Hierocles, governor of Syria, the camp symbolizes Rome’s restored dominance.
